AsbestosLRAPA regulates the abatement and disposal of asbestos-containing materials from any public or private building involving demolition, renovation, repair, construction and/or maintenance activities in Lane County. The purpose of the LRAPA asbestos rules and program is to prevent asbestos fiber release and exposure. Contractors working with most asbestos-containing materials are required to have an "asbestos abatement contractor's license" and their workers are required to be "certified" to work with asbestos. For information about asbestos in homes, download LRAPA's brochure "A Homeowner's Guide. Asbestos in the Home." LRAPA rules require that an asbestos inspection be performed by an accredited inspector before any demolition or renovation activities to determine the presence of friable and nonfriable asbestos-containing materials. The rule includes an exemption for some residential work performed by the homeowner. For more information download the "Asbestos Advisory Factsheet." |
